Gary Carmody Conway
created a special series of limited edition fine art prints celebrating the art
of the vineyard. These exclusive Giclée* epublications are printed on archival
papers with museum quality inks. Each print is meticulously created by hand,
then signed and numbered by the artist. A Certificate of Authenticity
accompanies each art work in this limited edition series.
With an extraordinary creative background from the fine arts and architecture to
the arts of viticulture and winemaking, Gary Carmody Conway shares the vision of
his Pacific highlands landscape in this vineyard series of fine art prints. As
an art major moonlighting in the UCLA drama department, he was spotted by a
scout and landed a contract with Warner Brothers. During that period he also
starred in regional theater and on Broadway in productions of Beauty Part with
Bert Lahr and Anita Loos' Happy Birthday.
It was in television where he became recognized worldwide, first with a starring
role in the TV series Burke's Law. While on this classic series he had the rare
opportunity to work with a grand array of legendary stars of the silver screen
from Mary Astor, to Bette Davis, to Gloria Swanson, to ZaZu Pitts. He followed
Burke's Law with Land of the Giants, considered one of the most successful
programs ever produced on an international basis. Besides starring in series and
a multitude of episodic television shows, TV movies and pilots for the three
networks, he was very active in motion pictures. As a teenager he starred in the
cult classics I was a Teenage Frankenstein and How to Make a Monster. He went on
to starring roles and production credits in motion pictures including Black
Gunn, Once is Not Enough, and the award-winning and top-grossing film The
Farmer. He was the screenwriter for such popular films as Over the Top, as well
as the highly successful American Ninja series.
He is a renowned painter with his work brilliantly displayed in his book, Art of
the Vineyard. Most recently he wrote and directed the film, Woman's Story, which
is being completed and readied for distribution. He also created a special
series of fine art prints for the film.
Gary Carmody Conway has spent a lifetime with brush and palette, his work
achieving maturity and passion because of his love and commitment to the land he
paints and has long observed. His artwork is sought after, especially the
dynamic vineyard compositions -- richly spontaneous in color and as emotionally
expansive as the invulnerable Santa Lucias. In this Big Sur backcountry the
grapes and wine find inspiration -- as well as the artist.
His vineyard landscapes capture the unique contemplative moods and expressive
forms of the mountains and the valleys. The artist has been heralded as one of
the most important landscape painters in the West, especially for his boldly
irresistible colors. "This vivid 'palette' engulfs me at the vineyard," the
artist states. "When you have stood, in awe, before the brilliant hues and
spirit-light of a thousand sunsets you might be able finally to paint one that
is close to the truth."
*Giclée (pronounced "shee-clay") is a French word meaning "spray" and, in this
case, refers to the inkjet method of applying ink. A Giclée is a form of
collectable fine art that ranks alongside lithographs and serigraphs. Giclées
are digitally produced, but not all digital prints can be classed as Giclées.
Giclée prints are produced by special, high-resolution printers using pigmented,
archival inks.
